First airline partner in North America to retrofit its fleet with the Split Scimitar Blended Winglets for better performance

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."

Mahatma Gandhi

Sustainability is an essential part of Sunwing’s current business practices and vision for the future. By recognizing and connecting with suppliers that share our commitment to quality, service, cost and sustainability, we have been able to reduce our use of resources while creating a more sustainable footprint. We encourage and empower our staff, partners and local communities to develop and implement sustainable operations and practices. This has helped us grow, while continuing to deliver differentiated products and services that provide value and meaning to our customers.

Fuel-efficient flying

Sunwing Airlines operates one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in North America and was the first Canadian leisure airline to fly Boeing 737 800 aircraft that use retrofitted split scimitar winglets to reduce drag and support efficient fuel consumption. The airline regularly demonstrates its commitment to environmentally-friendly operations with various continuous improvement initiatives, such as the recent addition of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes. These new state-of-the-art planes bring the latest technology to enable Sunwing to offer reliable, cost-effective and environmentally-conscious service, as well as support the airline’s reduction of its carbon footprint even further. The MAX uses less fuel and reduces CO2 emissions by 20% compared to the older aircraft that it replaces.

Sustainable tourism

Memories, Royalton and CHIC resorts are proud members of Green Globe, a leader in sustainable tourism. Adhering to internationally-accepted criteria for the sustainable operation and management of hotels and resorts, the hotels strive to minimize impact on the environment around improve communities around us with an array of green initiatives such as: turtle and marine-life preservation program, use of solar energy, on-site composting and comprehensive recycling programs, partnerships to protect local habitats, monthly beach cleanups and much more.

In addition, Royalton Luxury Resort’s recent investment for two new waste reduction systems continues to demonstrate our commitment to the environment. This initiative also includes the phasing out of single-use straws, reducing plastic bottle waste and rolling out a new eco-friendly water filtration system across bar and restaurant facilities.

As a result of these many initiatives, a number of our hotels have earned recognition for their efforts in maintaining environmentally-friendly practices. The beach at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica recently earned the Blue Flag Ecological Program recognition. The program rewards annual blue flags to the cleanest and most sustainable beaches in the country.
