"Be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma Gandhi
Sustainability is an essential part of Sunwing’s current business practices and vision for the future. By recognizing and connecting with suppliers that share our commitment to quality, service, cost and sustainability, we have been able to reduce our use of resources while creating a more sustainable footprint. We encourage and empower our staff, partners and local communities to develop and implement sustainable operations and practices. This has helped us grow, while continuing to deliver differentiated products and services that provide value and meaning to our customers.
Sunwing Airlines operates one of the most fuel-efficient fleets in North America and was the first Canadian leisure airline to fly Boeing 737-800 aircraft that use retrofitted split scimitar winglets, which reduce drag and support efficient fuel consumption. The airline regularly demonstrates its commitment to environmentally friendly operations with various initiatives, such as the recent addition of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes to its fleet. These new state-of-the-art planes, which joined the Sunwing fleet in the spring of 2018, offer the latest technology that enables Sunwing to offer reliable, cost-effective and environmentally conscious service. The MAX aircraft help reduce the airline’s footprint even further, reducing CO2 emissions by 20% compared to the older aircraft that it replaces.
Our corporate offices, suppliers, partners and destination teams practise sustainability in day-to-day operations, from the use of double-sided printing that reduces paper consumption, to a heavy reliance on e-communications. A conservation policy and recycling program is being implemented by our hotel management wing, including an “Eco-Conservation” hanger, which encourages guests to hang up towels that they wish to reuse rather than discarding them after a single use, as well as changing bed sheets every third day. The use of new generation laundry equipment has optimized energy and water consumption for each hotel.
Our Memories, Royalton and CHIC resorts are proud members of Green Globe, a leader in sustainable tourism. Adhering to internationally accepted criteria for the sustainable operation and management of hotels and resorts, we strive to minimize our impact on the environment and improve the communities around us. Initiatives include a wide range of conservation programs including comprehensive recycling programs, the elimination of plastic straws and plastic water bottles, the use of biodegradable cleaning supplies, monthly beach clean-ups and the preservation of local habitats in the communities in which we serve.
